Shred Day Events
To help combat identity theft, Horizon Federal Credit Union hosted two community Shred Day events, to securely destroy documents. The first event took place on Saturday, April 30th at Horizon’s branch at 1007 East Third Street in Williamsport. The second event was held Saturday, May 14th at the credit union’s newest branch at 2541 East College Ave in State College. The shredding company North Central Sight Services was on site both days to secure documents.
“Taking the necessary steps to protect your identity has never been more important than it is right now,” said Horizon CEO & President Justin Howard. “Horizon is excited to bring this free event to our community to provide individuals a convenient option to securely destroy their personal documents.”
As individuals were lining up for the shred day events, they expressed their concerns to us that their identity will be taken or hacked in various ways. Shredding confidential information is the safest way of preventing your identity from ending up in the wrong hands. The total amount of documents securely destroyed added up to over 1.5 tons. As per request from the community, Horizon will be hosting an additional Shred Day event at our Lock Haven Branch on Saturday, September 10th from 9:00 am – 12:00 pm.
